Temple History & Significance
The temple dates back to the 12th century and is steeped in mythology. According to legend, the site is linked to Maharaja Parikshit’s Sarpa Yagna. The seven streams of the Manjeera River are believed to have originated from the sacrificial fire pits, symbolizing divine energy. The deity here, వన దుర్గ భవాని, is considered swayambhu (self-manifested), worshipped in the form of a natural stone adorned with turmeric and kumkum.
Edupayala means “seven streams,” and the temple’s location at this confluence makes it spiritually unique. The architecture is simple yet powerful, reflecting rural Telangana’s devotional traditions. The annual Edupayala Jatara attracts lakhs of devotees, making it one of the largest tribal fairs in the region.
